Offshore aquaculture and Adaptation to the sea conditions

TOP Sustainability Offshore aquaculture and Adaptation to the sea conditions

To pursue more favorable and healthier environment for the fish

1.Offshore aquaculture

The Kurose Buri is raised offshore, where the weather conditions heavily affect the sea conditions. Kurose Suisan finally moved to this place in search for a steady, preferable water quality, avoiding a sudden dilution from the rain flowing through the river. The stress on fish from the change in water quality has been minimized, thanks to the fast-moving tide and the volume of water being abundant.

2.Harsh conditions of Offshore aquaculture

Offshore aquaculture offers the best environment for Kurose Buri, but there is still a problem. That is the harshness of the sea conditions. Being away from the shore offers a better environment for the fish, but for the people who raise them, the work is in an exceedingly difficult environment. The summer typhoons and the winter monsoons prevent Kurose employees from approaching the net pens. It might be risky as a business, but we proudly think this environment enables us to rear the best Buri.

3.Submersible net pens

To mitigate the effect of harsh sea conditions, we use submersible net pens. This net pen can stay under the water, 10m from the surface, all day except when the Buri are feed. The net pen is used because even when the surface is rough, inside the pen the water is relatively calm. This enables us to rear Buri offshore without affecting their swimming behavior or without damaging our net pens.
